Wonderful Short Film

Watch this! http://foreversnotsolong.com/.

I really don't want to die alone, and this really played into those fears for me. But it was great.

Work Ethic

Matthew and I were standing just inside a movie theatre, waiting for my friend to join us. A theatre employee (supervisor of some sort, I assumed) opened the door and said to the young man standing outside (pictured above), "When do you want to take your break?"

Matthew and I both gave a double take and shook our heads in wry amusement....

(In case you can't really see in the photo, the kid was drinking an iced coffee, texting, AND smoking a self-rolled cigarette.)

I have to hope that the supervisor was kidding, perhaps in a passive-aggressive attempt at snark, but we really don't think so.

P.S. He was wearing a Webelos cap. (Webelos are those in-between kids transitioning from cub scouts to boy scouts.) Here's somethign I found describing the objective of the Webelo Scouts: "Our Webelos den has been very exciting to watch as the boys change from being squirrely 3rd graders mostly intent on running around and playing to being a patrol that can recognize a goal, the requirements to fulfill the goal, and the ambition to accomplish the goal."

Haircut Heart

Ok, so my brother is visiting from Phoenix, and I always take advantage of seeing him by having him cut my hair (he's really, REALLY good). When we were done, I was vacuuming up the hair from the floor and JUST as I saw this heart just as it was getting sucked into the hose. I opened up the vacuum and sifted through the dust and dirt and hair and it fell back out...

Here it is as it lay before I added it to my collection. Read about how the collection got started here.

Merry Christmas

I received this link and thought it was quite cute... I couldn't help but smile, even in my "bah-humbug" state of mind this year. I definitely have not been in my "happy place," but I have a nice relaxing vacation coming up, and I plan to take myself away and give myself a good attitude adjustment.

That Special Touch

I 've been spending time at Solo Cafe Coffe and Tea House in Tempe, next door to Altered Ego Salon where my brother works. I've never seen a barrista make pretty designs in the foam of a latte before, but apparently it's a sign a well made gourmet coffee! As Coop would say, "Now that's a damn fine cuppa joe." (10 points if you can name the reference...)

I'm being treated well in tempe. :)

American Legion Conference

I'm working this week at the American Legion Conference in Phoenix. I was a little taken by surprise to see a booth that was displaying huge guns! (Look closely at the photo...) Not the usual medical conference I typically exhibit at.

The time is NOW

I saw this and had what I guess could be called a trigger event...
I CHOOSE 2BN CONTROL ON THIS JOURNEY!

Do, or do not-- there is no "try."

If I am going to lose weight, I will do it because I choose to. I can't continue to languish in frustration over why I have to do it!

A Rainbow

I saw this from the plane yesterday when I was waiting to fly back from a meeting at the NIH in D.C. I am bummed that I couldn't get the full shot. it was a COMPLETE double rainbow-- and SO VIVID!

I'm posting it as a shout out to my friend Kelly. Wouldn't it be great if we could send a real rainbow to a friend when they needed one. :)

A Rosie "Keepsake"

So I joined a group on Flickr.com for people who share my (bordering on obsession) love of all things Rosie O'Donnell. We all check her blog daily (often several times) for her latest updates, and hope for the excitement of having one of our postings in one of many interactive sections selected for inclusion by Ro herself.

Well, Friday I hit the elusive DOUBLE WHAMMY! The photo I submitted of me wearing my Rosie "Peace" t-shirt was on the home page, AND I had a comment/question featured in the "Ask Ro" section-- on the same day. :)

One of the guys in the Flickr group always makes 'keepsakes' for the members in the group who get answered to commemorate the excitement. Mine's posted below.

In the past, Ro has included a photo of her and me in a video that she made after a booksigning and then mentioned the gift I gave her that day in a "talkie blog" that she posted. I was pretty giddy then too.

Dad said, "I hope this isn't your 15 minutes of fame."
LOL-- Good point.

But in a world of crazy uncertainty, war, endless political coverage that just MAKES ME WANT TO YELL, it's fun to tune it all out and revel in a little silliness.
Thanks for the keepsake, Joey!
